Isho'dad of Merv wrote commentaries on both the Old and New Testaments. He was born in Maru/Merv (modern Turkmenistan), and was the bishop of al-Haditha (near Mosul) beginning in 837. His commentary on the Psalms is the first in the Syriac tradition, relying much on Theodore of Mopsuestia's commentary. Later commentator Jacob bar-Salibi relied heavily on Isho'dad's commentary.
